The purpose of the Fast Track Approvals Act 2024 was to "facilitate the delivery of infrastructure and development projects with significant regional or national benefits." New Zealand has high infrastructure costs and a massive infrastructure deficit (particularly when factoring in maintenance), so few would deny change was needed. But since Fast Track's enactment, Queenstown in particular has seen a large number of Fast Track applications for housing developments. Queenstown's housing crisis is significant, so again: few would deny change was needed. But since many of the projects lie outside the Queenstown Lakes Spatial Plan, community concern has grown about pressures on water and roading infrastructure.

Community members have increasingly expressed frustration with the lack of engagement their concerns have been met with by their elected representatives. So we'd like to take the opportunity to listen.

Bianca Beebe is a Queenstown local and the Opportunity Party candidate for the Southland electorate. Daniel Eb is the Deputy Leader of Opportunity Party, and candidate for Kaipara ki Mahurangi, which has also seen Fast Track proposals. We're here to talk to the Queenstown community about Opportunity's plans, but more importantly, we're here to listen.

All are welcome. Let's figure out how to Expect Better, together.

We will be at the Country Lane Retail Village, in the Schoolhouse, across from Buzzstop.

RSVPs are very important so we can plan for seating!

Will you come?
