Chee-Khiang (CK) Sng
Born and raised in Singapore, CK came to New Zealand in 2009 and quickly found himself at home in a country defined by its open landscapes and the warmth of people who accepted him for who he is. Family and love took him away in 2015, but New Zealand has called him back and he is now committed to helping shape a stronger, fairer future for Aotearoa by standing in the Kāpiti electorate as an Opportunity Party candidate.
CK’s working life has been anything but ordinary. He loves writing and began as a technology journalist, developing a sharp eye for how the world was changing and what it meant for ordinary people. That curiosity about human impact led him to an entirely different calling: nursing. Working at the frontline of care gave him a ground-level understanding of what people need when they are at their most vulnerable. He later moved into insurance strategy, where he spent years thinking carefully about risk, resilience, and how individuals and communities can be better protected against an uncertain future.
It was that thread of understanding change, caring for people, and building working systems that brought CK to the Opportunity Party. For him, politics isn’t about picking a team and scoring points off the other side. It’s about getting on with the job of building something better. The Opportunity Party’s vision resonates with him precisely because it focuses on the real work: making homes more affordable, building the next economy, looking after the planet, and helping people go further on their own two feet. Not slogans. Not division. Just practical progress.
Outside of politics, CK enjoys reading, travelling and photography. He also loves the cold and has likened himself to a polar bear that was born in the tropics.
