Blair Smith
Blair Smith is a Critical Care Paramedic based in Hamilton, working on the frontline of the New Zealand health system for fifteen years. He has worked across the country, from Christchurch to Timaru, Whangarei to Hamilton, seeing firsthand what happens when the system fails the people it is meant to serve.
Growing up with dyslexia, Blair knows what it is like to navigate systems that were not designed with you in mind. It is something that shaped how he thinks, how he works, and why he cares deeply about building something better for the people who are too often left behind.
That same drive carried him through a Master of Health Science in Paramedicine, a career on the frontline of emergency care, and a sessional academic role at Australian Catholic University. As a union delegate, Blair has advocated for workers navigating the same pressures he sees every shift underfunded services, overstretched teams, and a system that asks more and delivers less.
Outside of work he stays active through the gym and jiu-jitsu, and takes his cooking and BBQ seriously. He recently bought his first home in Hamilton, and understands first-hand what it takes to get there in today’s market.
Blair is standing for the Opportunity Party in Hamilton West because he believes hard work should be rewarded, not taxed, and that ordinary New Zealanders deserve a system designed around them. Not just the people at the top. All of us.
