Evan French
Evan is a recent University of Auckland graduate who is passionate about youth engagement in politics, and turning our Emissions Trading Scheme from an unwieldy club to a sharp sword for cutting our carbon emissions.
A self professed "huge nerd". Evan has grown up in Auckland and has been passionate about using numbers to understand the world since he was very young. He believes in using strong evidence-based analysis to create a world that is more sustainable and just for people. Before joining Opportunity, he studied Math and Ecology at the University of Auckland, with a goal to research climate modelling and understanding the future of climate research and response.
Evan also co-leads the Opportunity Youth Wing and strongly believes in the value of youth engagement in politics, because he recognizes that a democracy is only truly representative if all citizens are engaged and informed.
When he's not spreading TOPaganda, Evan is a big supporter of and participator in community sports, getting involved with anything from Football, to Netball, to Ultimate Frisbee. The value of community health and engagement is huge outside of politics too.
Evan is motivated by seeing the loss of hope in his peers for New Zealand's future, seeing more and more friends forced to flee to Australia, leaving behind the cities and communities they grew up in for better economic prospects. He strongly believes New Zealand has brighter paths ahead and that Opportunity holds the key.
